April - lilac - bluebells blowing in the breeze

May - verdant green - plants screaming we are alive

June - the gold - the wheat barley and oats are ripening

July - blue skys - and lazing around

August - ripe corn /wheat - the dusty colour of dried grass

September - blackberries - we are ready for eating

October - midnight sky - the wealth of it all

November - nut brown - and the leaves are still around!

December - black - when is the light and the sun coming back?

The turquoise and black of Tezcatlipoca face is taken from the a 15th – 16th century mask of the deity. This mask was taken from Mexico and is now at the British Museum

The Condor - one of the three great spirits - ruler and animal spirit of air and the mountains - stretches its wings and starts taking form.

Peru is made of three zones -
The Desert coast - with the wealth of the Pacific Ocean
The Andes - both black and white - with soaring sheer sided mountains
The Amazon - with its rich and diverse jungle

Some of the earliest temples – such as Sechin (Casma) ~1290 BC and the temple complexes in Marka Wasi– have a threefold structure.
The ground floor is dedicated to the whale or fish
The middle layer is dedicated to the jaguar
And the top to the Condor

Black and white pillars have been painted in.

The black and white pillars can be found in one of the oldest mesoamerican sites, Chavin de Huanter (~1000BC) , where the black carved pillars and black and white stone temple symbolise the balance between black and white, night and day, female and male.

Chavin de Huanter is also famous for its Jaguar carvings but more of that later......

The red and yellow are still wet, but Ive put in more of the background.

The picture is taking shape. It will need some serious drying time before I can access it to paint it again! (if i can wait that long!)

Health, Wealth and Happiness for the New Year. May 2008 be good for you!

The first colour has been added to the painting - Red and golden yellow.
Being oils they will take about 2 weeks to dry - thats dry enough to start painting round them. So its the waiting game ..........

At some point they will need another coat to get the intensity of colour that needed!

I may tackle the top right hand corner before that though ....so watch this space!

Hi

Im starting a blog to show progress on my latest painting, Tezcatlipoca - the birth of the sun.
I hope you will enjoy watching the painting take form, undergoing the transformations, from the white board to the finished piece.

The technical details - Im painting with oils on primed hardboard, and the size of the future painting is 3foot by 3foot. (3foot is about 90cms)
